The Calais children; and it's exactly as we thought.

That bloke with the hoodie looks mid twenties; the other observation I have is that there are some extremely shifty looking characters amongst these poor abandoned waifs and strays. I wouldn't turn my back on one of them.

Yep I'm wondering where all the pictures of the little girls have gone....

Oh, yeah, they managed to photograph them without their parents in the picture!

It's so obvious that it's not even worth getting annoyed about.

There is an old saying with emergencies: "Women and children first".

With that in mind, and if we have to take them, shouldn't the priority be toddlers and pre-teens? These "children" all look as though they can handle themselves. They have done so far, another week would not hurt.

I also wonder what will happen to the bogus and illegal ones, there will be some, sent back or accepted?

I think we all know the answer to that.

When is a child not a child. In this country child benefit is paid until the age of 20 so perhaps we should not be surprised.

Damned good question, Meds.

It is a complex matter and depends on where the 'child' is.

In the UK the age is ten, below which criminal charges cannot be made, but the age of responsibility for an adult crime is 18. Persons between those ages fall into a confused group, depending upon what they have done. However, popular culture, even in official circles, places those of 14+ as adults, when it suits them, yet they are children for other things.

Unfortunately, and not for the first time, the Law is an Ass on these things.

I'm reading the press on this as it continues to unfold.

So the borders agency is only "asking" for age verification if they look over 25.... Really? So they're not taking children then. Even worse, AFTER one of them arrives it appears we already have biometric data which shows he's over 18. Which is a much more serious problem because it means our government is either lying their asses off or not doing the correct validation checks on "men", who could be a significant risk to the security of this country.

Think that one through and decide what you believe.

Looking at some of the comments, the most idiotic I've seen so far is "where are all the girls". I'd ask "do they know nothing about the society that these people come from" but it would be a total waste of time because the obvious answer is an unequivocal NO.

So the press and the aid agencies have been bombarding us with photographs of girls under the age of 10 and using them to "highlight" the plight of the "Unaccompanied minors".

In reality, when we take this 100, we will find that they are ALL adult males sent by their families to pave the way for the extended family to enter the "golden land" and make their fortune there.

Anyone who feels that they have been betrayed needs to take a step back and rethink the whole situation. It's not as if they were not warned. They "chose" not to listen. In this scenario the only person they have to blame for the duping is themselves.
