The new plan from ex-spurts is for pupils to be taught to spot fake news.

Honestly, it is true. The head of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's (your guess is as good as mine), Andreas Schleicher, said the ability to analyse "what is true and what is not true" was essential in the modern digital age. He thinks pupils need lessons in order to filter out the crap.

When I was at school we were not taught topics we were taught subjects, and what he describes came under the banner of comprehension taught in the subject of English language. It worked rather well, as did learning about other cultures through the subject of geography or basic home (personal) economics through the subject of mathematics.

I have a suggestion for these 'spurts': Give pupils a well rounded education and you would not have to get so anxious, stressed out and worried about all these little things.
