People run over by a 4x4 on Westminster Bridge and a policeman stabbed. The attacker has been shot after crashing the 4x4 into gates at the House of Commons.

The world has gone mad. Worst thing is this type of madness was predicted years ago. I'd genuinely like to think that things will improve but I can't see it.

My office is less than a mile away - lots of helicopter noise in the skies (mostly news ones I'd have thought though) - no more sirens though. Traffic on the embankment is at a near standstill.

I'll be glad to be on a train home tonight

Stay safe Ria. One report says an attacker has been airlifted to hospital. If so I hope they get to 5,000 feet and then chuck the sod out.

Shell, thankfully I'm just over the bridge from Waterloo (Hungerford Bridge, the one that the trains from Charing Cross use) so can walk over. The embankment is now totally clear of traffic but Waterloo Bridge is totally back to back (but flowing) - all I can see is a long long line of red busses that aren't going anywhere in a fast hurry

I have just caught this on the TV and it is all very confused. A Met Commander has just been on and refused to speculate despite attempts to get him to do so by the media. The situation is described as 'fluid', meaning that it is still being assessed in a wider context.

I was sitting watching Escape to the Country when it was interrupted with breaking news

I was out digging the earth out of the new beds Mrs S had made and riddling it back in again. Mrs S pointed me to this.

Ria, be aware and be safe. I doubt you'll have too much trouble walking but the security is bound to be very high and that will cause problems.

These kind of lone wolf attacks can't be predicted or stopped unless the intelligence agencies have extremely intrusive access to our lives. Bad as it is, I think that more intrusion will be inevitable.

Interestingly (or should that be worryingly) enough , I never noticed any additional police presence at the stations. I was running a bit late leaving work so ended up catching the train from Charing X to Waterloo East and then changed over to my train home. The people all seemed almost nonchalant about what happened and just continued with their ordinary day...
