World and Olympic records to be erased from history.

This, the authorities say, is because doping tests prior to 2005 were not up to the standards of today.

It is stuff and nonsense. In future years today's standards will be seen as inferior, What then? Erase more records.

Many, the majority, of those records will have been achieved by "clean" athletes. Why tar them with the same brush as the suspected cheats. Why not describe the records as being pre 2005 in a similar way to tennis players being described as champions in the open era as opposed to the old amateur days?

There is far too much re-writing of history going on, in all sorts of areas, just to suit the thinking of today.

If I were a clean athlete who knew how much effort it had taken to beat dopers and get a world record I wouldn't be very happy.

Plus this erasure of old world records seems to presuppose that henceforth, no doper will ever not be caught; a proposition which I find to be unconvincing.

What are they going to do, erase all records on a regular basis?

I think it would be far fairer to erase all athletics records since 2005, not before it ...

I think it's a great pity that it has been shown that some athletes have been resorting
to taking drugs to enhance their performances.

Unfortunately, this seems to be yet another example of the present-day acceptance that
cheating for monetary gain is quite in order, if you can get away with it. I know several
close friends who practise illegal financial procedures for monetary gain, but obviously
consider that it is quite alright to do so, if they can get away with it.
