Trump pulls out of the Paris accord on Climate Change

So he's fulfilled yet another campaign pledge.

I must admit I never cease to be amazed at the shock and anger when Trump does what he said he was going to do. He's going to do them all. He goes from lambasting NATO on commitment to the G7 on trade then pulls out of the Paris Accord.

I'm sure Trump intends to be a one term President. So he has 3.5 years of mayhem ahead of him, he doesn't need to please anyone if he doesn't intend to run for office again.

I'm sure there will be angst and gnashing of teeth in the climate forums. My position was fairly calm on Trump. The climate is already so bad that 4 years of Genghis Khan won't make that much difference. Not everyone believes that but the consensus is getting there.

I think Trump just wants to wipe out anything that was achieved by Obama - he and his supporters could never accept that a clever, cultured, elegant, happily married black man had been president for 8 years. Trump is plain ignorant, you could see when he was reading the speech last night that he hadn't a clue what he was talking about. My dislike of and distaste for him knows no bounds.

I agree with you, Osc.

I can never understand how he came to be elected, and I think that is something politicians world-wide
should be thinking about, and perhaps modifying their modus- operandi. The democratic voting system
can produce some remarkable results - watch this space!

I understand the International outrage at Trump's decision, but I also see it as bluff and bluster.

The USA pulling out of Paris does not mean that everything stops today. It takes time to become extracted from a treaty/accord and this will not be final until Trump is gone. Once they see the damage caused by Trump's actions candidates for the next presidency will be queuing up to rejoin the real world. I would also not be surprised to find that the scientific community had not factored in Trump and have some plans in place to mitigate the USA withdrawal.

I am with Suff on this; it is a small pot-hole on a very long road, a pot-hole we could do without but it is not a landslip.

I've seen that it will take 3 years to pull out. If they take 3.5 years then Trump will, possibly, be out of office anyway.

It will, however, focus the next Presidential election.

Yes, I'd agree with the above two posts. The mooted four-year pull-out period represents a long time in politics, certainly US politics.

I'd be more concerned about those signatories to the much-vaunted Paris Accord who are merely playing lip-service to the provisions ...... I'm sure there's going to be a few ....

At my age I'm not too concerned about climate change - it's the younger generations who should be bothered,
but most of them are more interested in in their mobile technological gadgets. I took a train journey yesterday
and it made me wonder why the carriages now have windows, as everyone else in the carriage I was in spent
the whole journey twiddling their thumbs at their mobile technological gadgets. Who cares about the future of
the planet?
