A catastrophe within a disaster within a calamity.

I cannot remember a time when the country was in such a political mess.

We do not have a functioning government and might not have one even if the DUP deal is sealed.

The Queen's speech, the State opening of parliament, has been delayed with no clear reason given, though the Grnefell Tower incident is being used as a poor excuse.

The next Queen's speech (1 day in 2018) has been cancelled due to Brexit negotiations, yet we have just wasted seven weeks of that precious negotiating time on a pointless election.

We hear that Conservative party associations and the rank and file have given the parliamentary party an ultimatum of 10 days to ditch May.

We also learn that there is a stalking horse waiting in the wings should May water down Brexit. There is probably another waiting should she beef it up. It could go either way because we do not know what her stance is on any given day.

Another general election is on the horizon, there might be two, and even then there is no end in sight of the mess we are in.
