Have a TV show on Saturday nights - Strictly by Quota. Pool of contestants must be diversely representative of the community at large by %. Talent desirable but not essential.

Winners get jobs at the fixed rate of £100k pro-rata for a 37hr week.

Will I notice much difference if shows are presented by Ray Soapyworth, Bruce Fiona, Victor Derbysquire or Bald Clearing? I doubt it.

I'm not sure. Amazon saw the fastest and largest single uptake of viewers to it's service when TGT went to air. So there is an element of the people going where the presenters are and the money following.

The BBC does not just make money from licenses. As we saw with TG, the BBC made tens of millions world wide on the TG franchise. You're not going to get that with Victor Derbysquire or Ray Soapyworth.

I've seen some pretty dire TV in other countries in the EU with some pretty dire presenters. Whilst we should not go mad on pay, the UK is known for extremely good programming and presenters world wide, not just the BBC but the others too.

Mind you if it made the BBC take a step back and stop it's multiculturality, at any cost, it might be worth it. However I'd say it would just advance that agenda even faster when they don't have to care what the presenters think and can just churn another one out of the sausage factory.

I wonder to what extent those salary packages quoted took in benefits, expenses and other freebies.
For example, who pays for Kuenssbergs' body-guard? She herself, or the BBC?

The trouble with your Saturday Night TV show idea, WM, whilst admirable in scope and reasoning, ids that it will inevitably be hosted by either Mrs Brown or Graham Norton ..... a complete turn-off in my book.

I think it would make more sense if they had solved the salaries business
by reducing the men's salaries to line up with the women's.

What makes my lip curl about this is the hypocrisy of the BBC. They are so Holier Than Thou about any suggestion that somebodies rights are being infringed, or that any sort of inequality is allowed to exist.

Then they are revealed as a load of absolute misogynists, paying Emily Maitlis less than £150,000 to read the news whilst a man, Huw Edwards, is paid more than £500,000 for doing exactly the same job! How unequal is that?

The BBC management give ordinary hypocrites a bad name!
