Smart phone, dumb user.

Honolulu is introducing fines for pedestrians using mobile phones while crossing the street.

We need to go further. The firing squad is the only answer to smartphone users multi-tasking instead of dealing with the thing they are supposed to be doing - paying at the checkout, buying a bus ticket, pushing a supermarket trolley, pushing a buggy, holding a conversation with you (me), err walking.

I agree with the policy actually - should be extended to walking on pavements as well.
Otherwise how are you supposed to hear when the moped muggers are racing up behind you?

It's getting ridiculous. The other day I read that in one town they have installed warning lights, set in the kerb
at a pedestrian crossing, that turn red when traffic have the right of way -solely for the benefit of pedestrians
who walk along looking down at their smart phones.
