A mixed bag.

No outright winners in the local elections, but it does look like the end of the end for UKIP.

So, we're back to two-and-a-bit party politics with the electorate not having any enthusiasm to endorse any of them.

Well, UKIP has already impacted UK policy more than any party on the last 100 years. Even if they wither on the vine now, they can be proud of that.

Labour has a really big issue though. The Darwinian Iearning process the voters have been through in the last few years has changed the way they vote.

Finally they have realised that it is a two horse race and the dividing line is Brexit. Labour is not saying what Brexit voters want and May is. At the next GE, voters will be very aware that if Labour gets in they will screw up everything on Brexit.

That leaves Corbyn with a problem. Because in a referendum 1.3m voters are not much. But in a fptp GE 1.3m voters, depending on demographics, are a force to be recconed with and we can be pretty sure they won't be voting for UKIP.

Interesting question reported in the FT...
But for now, the Tories are gloating. On Friday morning James Cleverly, deputy chairman of the party, pointed out that Labour’s only gain, Plymouth, had not been the subject of a Momentum “Unseat” campaign. “Are those Momentum activists actually putting people off voting Labour?” he asked.

A question which has been asked here more than once....

Turnout around here was 27%. In the South Yorkshire Mayoral election turnout was 25%.
For the first time in many years neither me or MrsC bothered to vote.

UKIP splitting the country like no time since the Civil War(s) of 1642-1651 is something to be proud of? Give me strength!

I hope the next GE produces a hung parliament so riven that proper PR (not AV) is introduced. It is an election no party will want to win following Brexit anyway. I will then want to see the HoL replaced with a 100% elected second chamber, also under PR, and the removal of the Monarchy from politics.

I will join the Brexiters' fight to get our sovereignty back, not just from the EU, but also from parliament, the Church and the Monarchy. If I have to become a Communist, a political ideology I once put my life on the line to defeat, I will.

Enough!

Quite honestly, yes. UKIP has provided an opportunity for myself, and I'm sure countless thousands others across the country, to finally have our voices heard. That they didn't win national parliamentary seats is irrelevant - that they enabled ordinary folk to challenge the cosy clique of the metropolitan elite, the politically-correct diversity wonks, big business and hand-in-glove political parties was.

In my lifetime, my vote has only counted once for anything under FPTP (Paddy Ashdown' defeating the Tories in Yeovil in 1983), which is why I've long since concluded "democracy" in this country is little more than a joke. Some form of proportional representation in elections is the only fair way, in my view.

One thing at a time - the EU will be a good start, but even that's not writ in stone ....

Enough!

And another thing. Completely off-topic but still political in context.

If we are getting so worked up about Russian interference in our elections, how come nobody's calling Obama out for his blatant attempt to manipulate the result of our EU referendum?

Eh?

We didn't bother either. I'm getting fed up with the whole political set-up. A drastic change is needed.

The whole "the Russians are responsible for..." thing is a joke. How does fiddling about on Facebook decide an election? It doesn't. I'm sure Putin would like to interfere in our elections - just as the West would like to get rid of Putin!

Interference in elections? Give me strength. We "interfered" in Iraq and Libya (and Syria) in a rather more direct way than posting on Facebook! We bombed them and engineered regime change. The former presidents of these countries? Saddam Hussein - dead; Muammar Gaddafi - dead; and if Putin hadn't stuck his oar in, Assad would be dead and Syria would be being run by disparate bands of Islamic head choppers as well.

The outrage of our political class is a very selective outrage.

We didn't even have an election around here in South Staffs.
