Huhne and Pryce sentences.

Postby Paddypix » 11 Mar 2013, 17:11

I've been following this on Sky News. They have both been given 8 months and will serve a maximum of 4 months.

And the CPS is going to try to recover the costs of about £150,000 for bringing them to justice. I hope it succeeds.

So Huhne will not be blocked as a MP candidate in the future as you have to have been sentenced to a custodial sentence of 9 months or more.

So, apart from the pitiful machinations of the ex wife, the press and everyone who loves to hate him we succeeded in what?

Nothing but a circus.

What a waste of time and money.

Not a waste of either, imo.

Had the police done their job properly, at the outset, we would not be where we are now, but they didn't. What this case has shown, without doubt, is that we have two justice systems in the UK; one for the elite and one for the rest.

If it had not been for the actions of a 'woman scorned' both of these criminals would have got away with breaking the law.

It was very king and thoughtful of the Judge to give them sentences that will allow them to continue to be part of the elite in the future. How very convenient.

The only waste of time here is trying to make people see that if the law wants to prosecute the correct person then they must pay to put in place systems which are capable of determining who the driver actually is.

The rest is politics and this case has been nothing BUT politics.

My final word on it. I shaln't even read another word about it.

OK but....

The system is in place.

"Were you driving?"
"No, she was."
"Were you driving?"
"Yes, it was me."
"But at the time you were in a meeting in London, we have the minutes of the meeting. Are you sure it was you?"
"Err, yes."
"Come with us..."

Except that the system fell down - the police failed in their job, or did they?. The questions were not asked or followed up. Now, had they been, he would never have become an MP, able to make laws the rest of us have to obey, and she would have lost a very important job in which she was able to influence fiscal policy, which affected us all.

It is not 'politics' it is justice and fairness. The crime might be irrelevant when it's White Van Man trying to keep his job, but it is another matter when a high profile, influential and powerful couple play the same game.
