Ebola and Ozone.

Two reports out today should be a big wake-up call.

One says that Ebola has broken out in the DR Congo and has spread from a rural corner in the Northwest of the country to Mbandaka a city of one million people on the Congo river. This is a major trading route and there are fears that Ebola could soon spread to Congo-Brazzaville and the Central African Republic as well as downstream to Kinshasa, a city of 10 million people.

God help them if the outbreak is not stopped in short order.

The other report says that there has been a rise in CFC's, the banned chemicals responsible for the hole in the ozone layer over the Antarctic. The rise is said to be due to illegal production in East Asia, probably for use in refrigeration and also those ultra-inefficient air conditioning units seen sticking out of the walls and windows of millions of homes in that region.

Madness!

Interesting the report on DRC that I saw said they had learned a lot of lessons from the last outbreak and were handling it much better.

We shall see.

As for CFC's and ozone and climatic disturbances... We will do whatever is least in our interests every time.. God knows why. The first through the industrial revolution have made all the mistakes. Did the next lot learn from us? Not a chance, they want to make our mistakes all over again. What they don't realise is that the liveable biosphere only had one go round's worth of flexibility. Twice round and we're all going to pay for it..
