What goes around

Comes around. As the House of Lords is finding right now. With a petition hitting 169,000 votes for a referendum on abolishing the HOL, this is not a good place for them to be. Worse, it was debated in Parliament and there was broad, cross party, support for this move.

If the Government does bring this up as a bill, it will probably pass and then the HOL are unlikely to escape without very significant change in their role of government, if not outright replacement with a second elected chamber.

It is most interesting that the combination of Republican Remainers and extremely vindictive Leavers might actually enact constitutional change on a scale rarely seen in the UK.

Or maybe it will just be held over the Lords in lieu of good behaviour on Brexit and the required changes post Brexit.

Whichever way it goes, history will see the actions of the Lords over Brexit as something akin to people living in paper houses and playing with both petrol and matches at the same time.

I think there should be a referendum on whether the H of L should be abolished or significantly reduced in numbers.

Ah bless.

Leavers made such a fuss about parliamentary sovereignty, but when it expresses such sovereignty it is the wrong sort of sovereignty and the the HoL part of it is threatened with significant changes to how it operates or even downright abolishment and replacement with an elected chamber.

How very democratic.

Nope, how very political. Knife in the back, knife in the front, it's all the same.
