This was always going to happen.

Get some people in different places to buy parts for a self-build drone. Assemble it and pack it with explosives then sit back and wait for a chosen public event - Trooping of the Colour, Westminster garden party, open air concert.....

It has just been tried to assassinate the president of Venezuela, but it failed.

These things can be programmed to fly a pre-planned route remotely with the chances of the "pilot" being found at close to zero.

I saw that WM and the same thought occurred to me. I don't know how you would stop one.

Some sort of electronic jamming to create a no-fly zone around events?

The simplest would be to build in a ward off signal which overrides any programming. This would be mandatory in all drone software and the encryption keys only known to security services and companies.

However that would not stop the home build. But it would stop the easiest attempts.

It is very had to detect a drone. They are practically invisible on radar and extremely hard to engage. Standard military tech won't "see" them and you can forget trying to shoot them down. The best weapon is an EMP blast but that also has it's issues. Electronic jamming would work to a degree but the circuits can be hardened fairly simply.

The best bet would be to disrupt GPS signals but if the target was in a wifi rich area, that would also be hard to do as most commercial systems will navigate with a blend of the two.

I'm sure that our security services have already looked at the situation and have something which will at least give early warning.

Incredibly difficult though. About as hard as stopping a mortar if you don't spot the base site. The last time that was tried they used a van with a soft top. Very nearly succeeded too.

There are youtube videos showing kits to do most of the things mentioned, unfortunately most of them just bring the drone down, not ideal if it is packed witrh semtex. What is needed is to somehow take flight control to move the drone away, but then where to?

Suff, I also thought of the pick-up truck scenario: pull over, set the drone off, drive away.

All this technology will be the death of us :( .

There is nothing inherently wrong with Technology. The problem is with the people. We have been killing each other since before we stood on two legs and using whatever blunt instrument came to hand.

We need to sort the people out, not the technology.

But, apparently, that's BAD.

The technology is just the tool, it is how people use it that is the problem.

Unfortunately, in today's world, we are not able to confront these people for fear of upsetting their rights.

They do not give a stuff about us, but we have to be perfectly correct in how we attempt to stop their attrocities otherwise the international liberal elites will crucify us.

The sad thing is that we play their game, and they are winning.
