The media has gone into overdrive to 'announce' that a deal has been done. Nothing, 'deal wise', has been done if you go to the small print.

An agreement between the EU and UK has been made on a 'draft' text. That draft has to morph into a proposal and then that proposal has to be agreed by cabinet tomorrow at 14:00 hrs. A lot to do in such a short time.

If, and it is a big if, cabinet agrees, the proposal can then go to the EU and the 27. They will then look at it individually and collectively to decide if they can accept it and then hold an extraordinary summit later in November.

Remember, 'nothing is agreed till everything is agreed'. As things stand not everything is agreed.

WM is 100% correct. There will be a deal when the PM puts a deal before parliament for a vote and the parliament accepts it. The € is currently testing the boundaries of €1.15 on this news which is not really news.

This is a time to totally ignore the headlines and wait for a document to be put to parliament.

It also might be worth remembering that Italy won't sign any deal with the EU until they agree the Italian budget. Which is totally bogged down in posturing and dogma.

If Italy doesn't sign, then it's "No Deal".

And you would expect what from an EUphile unelected civil servant who went behind the backs of everyone and "appeased" the EU??

The interesting point is this. When that deal is signed, it will be between a fully Sovereign UK and the EU. It will NOT be something which cannot be re-opened except when the EU wants to nor will it be something that can never be changed.

So long as the EU sells more goods to the UK than the UK sells to the EU, the UK has the ability to modify the relationship.

What we see today is the state of play until the end of 2020. After that any "deal" comes into effect. So does any trade deal with other nations around the world.

Once we are out, in April 2019, May can be removed and then the serious negotiations start. I intend to have a vote in who replaces May and have taken steps to ensure I do.

Also we need to remember Parliament has to approve and, even after that, Italy has to sign it.... A _very_ long way to go before we can say "sell out".

Nothing at all. I have been predicting we would be sold out for months and we have been.

You have a great deal more faith in Conservative MPs than I do Suff. This document is just appalling; worse than anything that I could have imagined.

Effectively it is tying us into the EU in perpetuity, forbidding us from doing any trade deals with anyone else unless the EU gives us permission - and making us pay £39 billion for the privilege!!

May needs to go asap. Not next year, not next month, not next week, now. The more things get put off with "somethings going to happen next month" the worse things get.

How can any Prime Minister try to sell this to the country. She has failed miserably in her task, principally because she was not prepared to listen (except to the EU).

No deal is definitely better than this deal. I would like to see us take our chances now. We have given negotiation a chance to no avail. No wonder Barnier is smirking.
