News wires are confidently reporting that the 1922 Committee has received the required number of letters to trigger a vote of no confidence in Theresa May.

Commentators are saying that yesterday's cancelling of the meaningful vote on May's deal, and her trip to Europe to try to get the EU to offer changes that it has already and forcefully said will not be forthcoming, appear to be the straws that broke the camel's back.

Some are also saying that the vote deferral and the trip are not May kicking the can down the road, but her deliberately trying to run down the clock so that her deal becomes the only option to be voted on.

Tomorrow could be an interesting day.

It could indeed. There are some quite significant rumblings in the party about the "Lack of due respect" being shown by Ireland. It may actually be a significant contributing factor if the leadership contest is actually called.

It is a rather interesting situation. May, as the architect of this "deal" could fall on her sword allowing a new leader to rip it apart and force the EU to modify it. The Parliament would, in the event of May's demise, be virtually duty bound to allow a new PM to back away from the vote and try to fix the situation.

It could be a very interesting day...

I have been listening to conversations on various channels and A50 keeps cropping up now that May is likely to be challenged, and it apparently does not matter whether she wins or loses - she will be a lame duck. The ability to revoke A50 throws a spanner in the works.

That ability could eradicate an accidental 'no deal' should, as seems likely, any May deal fails, and it actually makes voting down her deal a lot safer. The thinking, by some learned people, is that a motion to revoke A50 could be tabled for a vote in parliament immediately after a May deal vote.

Labour and the SNP would probably not do it, it is far too toxic, but the LiDems, Greens or a coalition of independents could be persuaded to do it as they do not have so much to lose. With there being so many Remain MPs, in all the parties, it would probably pass. There would be relative 'safety in numbers', apart from the proposer(s), for MPS and their parties with all being able to claim that it was not them 'wot done it'.

The numbers are now confirmed and the vote will take place between 6 pm and 8 pm this evening with the result published shortly after.

A bit late in the day but hey ho, on with the next round of It's a Brexit Knockout.
What next?

I shall be glad when this Brexit farce is all over.

Don't start me on this. The disgusting arrogance of anyone saying "the Irish should know their place" has me furious beyond belief.

Remainers are resigned to the fact that we are going to get a fudge that is worse than staying in. Brexiters, on the other hand, are not going to get any sort of Brexit they hoped for, just BRINO.

I fully expect the collective spinelessness of Tory MPs to create a dead woman walking, the lamest of lame duck PM. Everyone she now deals with will know that she is on borrowed time, all they have to do is be nice and then stall.

If the Cons do not get rid they will go into the next general election with her as leader. What a pleasant prospect that will be: Not.

The very saddest thing in all this is that it is not good for the country. Because of bloody Brexit everything else is on the back burner. We have ceased to be governed on a daily basis and are just stumbling along hoping all goes well.

Osc, when Priti Patel suggested that food shortages in Ireland should have been used to pressure Ireland, a sideways reference to the famine, I was sick to my stomach. Close ancestors on the Irish side of my family lived through that and if she said it in front of me I would knock her to the back of beyond, and then some.

It just shows that there is still this underlying disdain for Ireland and the Irish in certain elements of UK society.

Me too, unfortunately.
Theresa May has repeatedly disembled, misled, outright lied and has been found to be in contempt of Parliament.
She double crossed David Davis by having the civil service negotiate with the EU behind his back. She is and has shown it repeatedly, someone whose word cannot be relied on yet her party thinks that she is worth saving.
