We are being told that this year's Spring statement will not be going ahead as was planned for in the two-year agenda in 2017 on the grounds that "It will be for the next prime minister to set out their substantive agenda for the next phase of policy making."

That is total rubbish.

Were the speech to be made and it was then voted down by parliament it would be the equivalent of losing a vote of confidence and the government would have to resign. That is a possibility.

Another reason is that a new session of parliament, which follows the Queen's speech, would mean a new deal with the DUP. That could prove problematic given the bad blood that now exists between the two parties.

The third is that May has already promised to resign. She therefore cannot tie a new Tory leader and PM to her legislative agenda. For there to be a substantive Queen's Speech there would have to be an election. May does not want an election.

This is another can-kicking exercise, but this time to cling on to power.

Politics is probably at the lowest point that I can remember. The way MPs (on all sides) have carried on in the last three years is appalling.
You would struggle to justify voting for most of them.
I wonder if TM will cave in to Labour on the negotiations just to avoid having the EU elections? Because as far as the conservatives are concerned the EU elections will be the biggest massacre since General Custer.

I am so shocked at the disintegration of our Government. There are very few MPs across the whole house who deserve to be in Government. They will all be fearing for their well paid jobs now and no doubt gunning for Nigel Farage and the threat he represents to them all. I have never had any particular view on Caroline Lucas, but I was taken aback to hear her say on Question Time that Nigel Farage knows very well how to whip up hatred and racism. I found this objectionable and seemingly, so did a large number of the audience. However, he has a thick skin so no doubt he will brush off these 'libellous' remarks. This is another example of how those who hold different views have managed to belittle and smear those of us who have had the temerity to go against the establishment and vote to leave the EU.
