Oh, we already have!

On Wednesday 5 June leaders from all over the world will meet the Queen and our PM to remember the 75th anniversary of D-Day - Operation Overlord - in which some 750,000 troops, on both sides, lost their lives.

The attendees include President Trump, President Macron of France, Prime Minister Trudeau of Canada and Prime Minister Morrison of Australia, as well as leaders and senior representatives from New Zealand, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Greece, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovakia and Denmark. Chancellor Merkel of Germany will also attend.

It is supposed to be a memorial, a commemoration.

However, all the focus, by our gutter media, has been on Trump and what he has said about Meghan, Farage, Johnson, just about anything but the real reason he is here.

It is sick and insulting.

A lot of the TV news seems to be at the level of a soap opera. Did Trump fist bump the Queen? Did Harry snub him? What did you think of Melania's dress?
The D-Day invasion was a terrible thing.
There are thousands of young American boys who never got to go home but lie in a grave in France. But the coverage is all about slagging off their President, as usual.

Hopefully the level of coverage will grow up a bit over the next few days.

I am sick of hearing about the irresponsible people who are now taking to the streets of London to run down the visiting American President.

Trump was elected by the American people, and if you run down Donald Trump you are suggesting that the American voters have done wrong.

We are supposed to have a 'special relationship' with the USA, so how can we justify the present fool-hardy behaviour on the streets of London?

They are protesting what he stands for. End of.

It's a pity they have nothing else better to do.

Those protesters are lucky that they have the freedom to protest. If it hadn't been for the American and other Allied troops, they'd be under the jackboot now - perhaps they should remember that. Just sayin'

As an aside, I don't think Macron's attending the D-Day commemorations with the other World leaders, is he, WM?
I'm sure I read somewhere that it's something to do with the fact that it's the 75th Anniversary and French Presidents only "do" the 10 year dates?

I'm well aware of their sacrifice, the protests are against Trump the man, not those brave soldiers. He is behind a lot of regressive policy going on in the US, stripping back on women's rights, welfare, and all sorts of things - and is here talking about trade deals where even the NHS is on the table. We are sleepwalking into being asset stripped by the Americans and that is being protested. Good!

There is plenty of coverage D Day going on right now, on BBC Breakfast. I've been watching, and it's extremely respectful of the sacrifice those young men made. Trump has hardly had a mention - quite rightly, seeing as he dodged the US draft, citing bone spurs. Those men deserve better - we all do.

Maybe it's just me....

Thursday marks the 75th anniversary of D-Day, Operation Overlord, the Battle of Normandy, the beginning of the end of WW 2 and ... ¾ million dead troops and an unknown number of what we now euphemistically call 'collateral damage'.

THAT is why a boatload of world leaders, including Trump, are here. That's it!

So do excuse me if I seem a bit pissed off that our gutter media has turned this historic event into a one man comic book show and an excuse for rent-a-mob to take to the streets. For my part I have tried to give it all a wide berth. TV and radio news is out and even though I cannot miss the print headlines I can opt not to read the articles, which is what I have done.

Sorry, Kaz, but it's a bit late for the media to be going all respectful having had its Punch and Judy show. I go on an ex-services site and I know that a lot of us feel the same even though we dislike Trump with a vengeance. Some things are just that bit bigger than personal feelings.

War memorial for me tomorrow, then hopefully we can get back to some kind of normality.
