Presumed consent

There was a report on the Beeb tonight that England is going to adopt the existing Welsh system of "opt-out" with regard to organ donation.

I think the key thing really is knowing what your loved ones' views are. Mrs O and I know how each other feel about it, and we would both act to respect the other's wishes. Do we really need an opt-in or opt-out system?

I think that the majority of us are not particularly bothered one way or another, but that it will be another of those issues played out and decided on by one of the minorities with strong views at either end of the spectrum.

I think opt-out is definitely the way forward. Far too many people die waiting for organs that get incinerated or rot in the ground :(

Kaz, if opt-out was the rule it would not bother me one bit I just think that I don't have many parts worth them bothering with.

However, I am rock-solid certain that there will be strong campaigns both 'for' and 'against' and it will drag on and on to the benefit of no one.

I thonk it's polite to ask.
The attitude that the state has the right to "harvest" your body is anathema to me.

I also firmly believe that you should have to opt out if you didn't wish to donate - and equally if you chose to opt out by default you opt to not receive either ;)
