Now Asda is joining the 'refill' revolution to combat plastic.

Do give me a break.

Go to any supermarket and you will see caulis, cabbage, celery, carrots, broccoli, leeks, swedes..... oh, just about everything, wrapped in plastic.

It has sod all to do with freshness or protection in transit, it has everything to do with selling multiples (X2, X4, X6) and standard weights.

Plastic could be reduced overnight if we just stopped wrapping everything in it.

Absolutely fair comment, but I do note that Waitrose has started selling more loose fruit and veg, and providing fully compostable bags for them. I make sure I never knot the bags and once we've emptied them, we reuse them in our weekly food recycling bucket.

It's only a small thing, but it's a start …..

I bought two of the drawstring bags that Sainsbury's have been selling, for fresh fruit and veg, but yesterday had to buy pre-packed mushrooms and broccoli as there wasn't any loose on sale
