There might be some good news at last.

Figures released by the ONS show that coronavirus deaths in the week to 15 May reached their lowest point since the start of April. The long-term trend is generally down, but with some dips and bumps.

It could be that our lockdown has done part of what was hoped - to keep the NHS from being inundated. It also looks as though those under 45, and possibly even under 65, have made it through relatively safely.

However, we should not celebrate too much, as yet. The easing of the lockdown is only two weeks old (Wednesday) and the lead time for events is two to three weeks. We should have a better idea of how things are going by the end of the first week in June, but there are reasons to be hopeful.

With a fair wind and the vast majority of us staying sensible regarding distancing and washing hands we might still get a reasonable summer break.

Let's hope so Frank, but I am worried about a spike in a couple of weeks, following the BH weekend. Did you see Southend Beach? Terrifying :(

The government said it was OK to sunbathe so people did. It would not be my choice for a day out.

The government has to review every 21 days and the next is on the 3rd of June. I have just been reading some travel and camping blogs and the hope from the tourism industry is that there will be some easing for it and that on the 24th June review more places will be allowed to open providing they can meet hygiene and distancing rules.

Our rules here are relaxing faster then yours we are allowed up to 10 people in our garden together and expected to observe the 6 foot rule , we can also have 2 friends round in our house for coffee or a meal again as far as possible the 6 foot rule. Most can return to work but not pubs and cafes etc they are still takeaways. we have not had a single case for a week now and only as of yesterday 7 confirmed still isolating. so we are hopeful next week we will be allowed to drive the car with up to 2 friends in but everything is liable to revert if it rears its head again.
