A terrible stabbing in Reading. Three dead three seriously injured.
The police have declared it a terrorist incident.
The Guardian has said that "mental health" is believed to have played a part in the terrorist's actions.
What a surprise. Every time an atrocity has been committed in Germany recently, mental health has been given as the reason why.
When you can't deny, minimise.

The Guardian used to give a reasonably balanced left wing view of the news, and leave the ranting to the columnists, which of course included Seamus Milne back in the day.
Since the advent of Momentum and Corbynism though, it has swung into a much harder leftie stance. Following the defeat of Corbynism, it has just become petulant with the credo of rubbishing the Government at every opportunity, and taking as contrary a stance as possible. That comment above is just an example of the latter.

Shoot the messenger?
I cannot find any mention of mental health in the Gridiron article, not one word, but I did find these.
Independent: "Security officials told The Independent that there was a strong possibility that the motivation was terror-related, and investigators are also examining whether the suspect had any mental health issues."
Telegraph: "Mental health is being considered a major factor in the incident, security source said."
Standard: "A security source also told PA the suspect is a Libyan asylum seeker and mental health is being considered a major factor in the incident."
Mail: "Police are considering mental health to be a major factor, according to security sources."
So, it looks as though it is the security services throwing the mental health card and not the media.

They are all playing games. If any of them wrote the truth, the headlines would have read "North African Illegal Immigrant in custody, suspected of murdering thee British citizens".
Anything else is spin.
A tiny bit of digging would have unearthed.
Khairi Saadallah, 24, of Coronation Square, Reading. Common assault of an emergency worker. Imprisoned for two months consecutive.

Yes WM, it is most definitely the security services who are throwing "mental health" in there at the earliest possible opportunity, following the example of the Germans.
Tremendous. He's a refugee who has just come out of jail. We've let some beauties into this country.

Crommers, if he is in the UK and still seeking asylum, then he entered illegally.
So let us call him what he is, an illegal Immigrant.
Refugees are in neighbouring countries.

Just because he is Libyan seeking asylum in the UK does not make him an illegal immigrant, despite the safe countries between us. As a Libyan citizen he could have flown here direct to claim asylum. That is allowed and is legal under international law.
He did not have to float on a raft across the Med then make his way to the Channel through safe countries and cross on a lorry to get here. That would be illegal.
Refugees and asylum seekers do not necessarily have to be domiciled in neighbouring countries to seek status; far from it.

I did read yesterday that he came over here in 2012 as a tourist and claimed asylum on the grounds that he was in danger from Islamists, as he drank, smoke and did not live an Islamic lifestyle. He also allegedly converted to Christianity.
If he was on MI5's radar though you wonder if that conversion was just skin deep.

Regrettably, there's going to be hundreds of potential terrorists like that out there in society. My regret is that he wasn't shot dead, like the recent London terrorists. Although it's a terrible thing in itself, it always strikes me as the best outcome, and far better than going through all the legal trial shenanigans and then having to incarcerate him for 30 years or whatever, and putting up with all the human rights lawyers' appeals that will inevitably follow.
And whereas it's difficult to "send them back", Vic, I still feel that we should be far more rigorous in denying them entry in the first place. It's a huge failing in Government and their weak leadership over many years that nobody has ever got to grips with this. Asylum should never be a "right".
