Lies, damned lies and PHE statistics

I had noticed in the global stats that the UK recovered column was n/a. I never had the interest to dig further as to why.

Now we learn that PHE don't track recovered, they just add you to the death stats for covid if you die, for any reason, after a diagnosis.

Lock downs, masks, people's jobs, the economy, are all slave to this extremely lazy tracking.

Just like the ~20,000 or so extra cases duplicated from the regions, expect the deaths to fall sometime soon.

This will all go into the PHE review, I'm sure.

In this country we are being edged (or were being edged) towards government by "experts".

This is why the term "technocrat" was invented, to excuse the fact that democracy was being bypassed; in this country by creating vast quangos that sail along regardless of who the Prime Minister might or might not be.

Trouble is, the vast quangos and their "experts" have been shown up to be anything but expert. PHE has 5,000 staff. It has "operational autonomy". It has a budget of £4.5 billion pounds a year.
It has specific responsibility for infectious deseases.
And imo it has failed every major test in the covid epidemic.
The Nightingale hospital in London was put together in four days by the army and NHS contractors. PHE would still have been organising their first "stakeholder meeting" in that timescale.
PHE's tracking app collapsed in a heap, as everyone with the slightest bit of knowledge knew that it would.

But the fact that they can't count properly is a bit of an eye opener, especially this bit from the Sky piece;
"Essentially, there is no way to recover, statistically. So, if I tested positive for COVID-19 today and then I got hit by a bus tomorrow, then COVID-19 would be listed as my cause of death."

I mean, come on. That's beyond ridiculous but these "experts" seem to think this is OK?
