National Savings have announced that they will no longer be sending you a warrant through the post for your Premium Bond winnings from March next year. If this affects you, you may need to take some action .....

In order to continue receiving prizes, you will have to register on-line with them and provide your bank and contact details if you want to be paid; the other option, of course, is telling them to reinvest your winnings.

This enforced drive on-line is all very well and hunky-dory - until Russia or China crashes our internet system .....

Is it such a big deal?

You can no longer buy PBs using cash you need to go online, by phone or by post. Whichever way you go NS&I gets all the details it needs to inform you and to pay you..... and also to take your monthly payments if you are 'investing' in them.

Only the smallest prizes are cashable at a bank or PO, the others have to be deposited into an account anyway - it might as well all be direct - and they will send you an email or a text to tell you when you win.

And if China and / or Russia "could" crash the UK's portion of the Internet (it can only be done in theory) you would not be able to cash in your 'paper' prize. All systems would be down, everywhere, so no checks could be carried out. It could be one straight off Bob's printing press in his garage just down the road for all the bank knows.
