They said that Facebook

Would eventually take over as the mailing system of choice.

That just died with the new charges for messaging outside of your friends zone.

Unless, of course, you want to make E-on, HMRC, DSS etc as your friends.......

Facebook may be a mega corporation now, but it doesn't mean they won't be subject to small thinking.....

I have heard about this recently, a friend on FB had a status about it, but like Shell I've recently messaged people who are not 'friends' and not been asked to pay :?

I agree it would be short sighted to roll this out though :?

I had no conception Facebook charged .... but there again I'm not a member.

TBH, at a 71p minimum charge, it's cheaper to send a snail-mail - well, for the moment ......

When shares are only trading at 75% of the IPO, money has to be made from somewhere, and if mugs are prepared to fork out £10 to email a Sleb who will never read it.......

It's "in development" but so was Ryanair baggage charges......

They won't dominate the world like this but as WM says, money has to be made and those who are daft enough to pay them will be caught in it.

The best thing that could happen is half a billion people get their accounts deleted. If nothing else it would force the FB team to create a visible and automated "delete my account" function....

  I don't know what's worse about that story - the fact that her bank account was hacked due to faults with FB security or the fact that they aren't even replying to her complaints about it  I would never store my bank account details on FB, or my phone numbers or address if it comes to it :?

If you use FB on your phone, it 'knows' your number already.

And if you reply to its request for your personal history, such as where you went to school/college/where you work, even more info is available to the world.

I haven't got a smart phone so don't access FB that way, and I don't mind them knowing where I studied or worked but my home address and - god forbid - bank card details are another matter  I wouldn't give them those details..................
