Citizens Advice is claiming that poorer people are 'locked out' of life because broadband is so expensive. It claimed that on average households were paying £37 a month for broadband and landline.
I simply so not believe them. A quick look this morning and I found three providers offering unlimited deals at under £20 per month - one at £17 per month. OK the speeds were slower at 11 to 17 Mb, but for access to the Internet, job searches, CV sending, keeping in contact with family and friends and online shopping - all the things CA says people are missing out on - they are fine.
It is true that these deals are not good for gaming, streaming or downloading the latest blockbuster, (the things people 'want' to do), but they are not 'essential' in any way shape or form. I will also bet that these people are also not on a data free PAYG phone plan on a cheap and cheerful 4G brick at £5 per month.
The people at CA and other charities have a very strange idea about what real poverty is
