The Budget.

Was it a gain or loss or neutral?

The media is not going over it with a fine toothed comb as would normally happen, probably because there is not much to comb. It all looks rather innocuous, even though the overall tax burden is back to 1960s levels, but then there was not much wriggle room.

However, there will come a day when a chancellor (Rishi?) will have to stick the leaves back on the money tree, and that is going to hurt. Depending upon how things go it might have to be done before the next election and that really would throw the cards in the air.

As time goes on we'll see the difference between the hype and the reality.

Short version is that to survive Covid the government had to spend bucketloads of money that they don't have. Who do they get all their money from? Us.

It is hardly rocket science.
