Opinion polling for the German Federal elections

Are showing a huge surge for the Greens with a parallel dive for the CDU. So much so that the polls are starting to show the Greens as the largest party.

This would be a HUGE change for Germany where the greens would have moved from a bit player in a coalition to being the party forming the coalition.

It may not happen, but it is an interesting political move in Germany.

Interesting. A grand coalition of Greens and CDU/CSU... with Annalina Baerbock as Chancellor.

It is an interesting thought isn't it. It would change the heart of the EU, the perception of Germany on the world stage and also how Germany works with the rest of the world.

It is a funny thing about these polls. When it looks like Green is a protest vote or an alternate because the "main" parties have made themselves unpalatable, people think "why not", but are not driven. When the polls show that an upset of this magnitude is possible, those who might have voted elsewhere can actually vote for the upset.

The election is not until September and the vaccination will be on track by then. However with the 2050 Net Zero CO2 goal having been signed up to by the government, but younger people feeling the current generation is not doing enough, the Greens look like a party who will push the issue into this decade and not push it out into the following decades.

It will be an interesting thing to watch.

Another interesting thing is that quite a few northern European countries have gone for younger and many female leaders. By their very nature they are more likely to push for greener policies in the next decades.

The young are starting to inherit the Earth and they are not liking what they see. They are far more liberal and in touch with their inner selves than previous generations. Change is a-coming.
