John Bercow has joined Labour

Let that one sink in.

However, is it that much of a surprise?

The Conservatives made it patently clear that he was surplus to requirements and his wife, Sally, has been a Labour activist on various fronts for many years. I wonder if Labour will give him a parachute or will he be practicing the dark arts behind the scenes in committees and lobbying some of his mates in the media?

It's no surprise.
There are certain politicians whom, having left office, I fervently wish never to hear from again. Unfortunately they keep popping up.

Blair
Cameron
Bercow

(NB: The above list is not exhaustive .....)

He made it perfectly clear he was not a conservative during the last government.

May he provide the same trust and felaithfulness to Labour that he did to the Conservatives.

Bercow is of Jewish heritage. Why he wishes to join a party where some active members have previously displayed anti-semitic tendencies, therefore, I have no idea.

Careful there, Ossie. Labour does have some anti-Semites in its ranks, as do other parties, and it did not handle the complaints about them in any way acceptable, but that does not make the party a structurally anti-Semitic one. If it was would it not be banned?

All parties have undesirables in their ranks, it does not mean that the party agrees with their views.

Never mind, it was Bercow's choice.

Fair comment, WM, perhaps my amended wording is more acceptable.

I can go with that.

It works for me too. It's hard when a party gets a core of nasty and intolerant people who get the party a bad name. In general the party will be full of normal tolerant people, just like the country is.

Being tarred with the anti-semite brush and not being able to change it must be hard for some.
