Sally Bercow snubs funeral

Sally Bercow has snubbed an invitation to Margaret Thatcher's funeral because she believes the former Prime Minister created a 'very greedy and selfish society', it was reported today.

Well honestly - the cheek of the woman. There is nobody more greedy and selfish than Sally Bercow. What gives her the right to criticise others?

I am no fan of Bercow, who has achieved little in her life other than to marry a politician - if that is indeed an achievement.

But my God! the Mail has gone way overboard on this one. She has done nothing like the claim made in the headline.

The Mail has quoted her words from a 2010 radio debate and made out they are what she has written on her refusal RSVP when it is equally possible that she said nothing more than a polite "No thank you.".

I think there is a competition going on between the Mail and the BBC to see which one can come with the most tenuous Thatcher story and then be the most indignantly outraged if there is any hint of negativity.

Are you saying that she didn't say "greedy and selfish society" etc?

No. She said them in a radio debate nearly three years ago and, like her or not, she is entitled to her opinion; though I wouldn't give her air-time. However, there is not a shred of evidence that she said those things when turning down her invitation to the funeral. It is a made up story by the Mail in order to stir things up.
