In the middle of an article on the UK not providing enough

Fishing permits to French fishermen,

Comes a diatribe about the NI protocol...

Why, I don't know apart from, perhaps, there simply isn't enough meat in a spat over the UK requiring too much proof before they'll give a license to small French fishermen.

The bit that got me was this little epistle from Covney.

“The negotiating strategy Lord Frost has adopted so far this year, effectively, is to wait for the EU to come forward with compromise proposals; to bank those compromise proposals; say ‘they’re not enough’ and ask for more,” said Coveney. “This is the same pattern over and over again.”

Now he knows exactly how Theresa May and David Davis felt, over and over again, as Barnier did exactly the same thing as he knew that May didn't have the support of Parliament.

After the initial small coffee spurt, I did sort of equate it with the very short attention span of politicians.

So, let's get this straight. The EU is not playing to your Brexit rules and you are pissed off.

Why would it? You chose to leave on your terms. The EU has stuck with its rules and conditions. How evil is that?

May didn't have the support of the country, nor did the Johnson, and that remains the case today..

We had a (fixed) vote - red bus, lies, three word slogans, etc. and 52% of a 72% turnout is not a majority - it's about 37.5%. You Brexshits are not a majority.

And now the truth about Brexcrap is coming home you want to deflect even more. Why am I not surprised?

Hide behind Covid all you like, but I will never forgive you for what you have done to my country.

Such a traitor I am, as you lot call me.

I can't see how 52% of any number is not a majority

All elections are the same. Not everyone bothers to vote so the majority is as it is. I have no regrets that we have left the EU. COVID arrived at virtually the same time and this has been the priority, world-wide. Whatever is negotiated in good faith, if it ultimately does not work for one party and legitimate reasons for that are given, then my feeling is it is the duty of any government to try and negotiate further to put that right.

It's a negotiating strategy. When you enter negotiations it is as well to have a strategy.
That may be Frost's strategy, others will have their own.
It's like being surprised that Saturday is the day after Friday, or that water is wet.

No, actually I was pointing out that the EU was now whinging that the UK is now doing to the EU Exactly what the EU did to May in 2019, leading to her loss of leadership of the Tory party.

Tough. If you don't like it, then don't do it. If you are going to do it; don't whinge when someone else does it back to you.

This is a valid observation and is core to most of the British values I grew up with. It is also core to Christian values. "Do unto others as you would expect them to do unto you".

Time will be the judge of whether Brexit is a success or otherwise. There are people who want to see that success and people who don't, just there are people who are happy to be part of an EU superstate and others who are not.

I absolutely do want our country to be successful, which is why I didn't vote for Brexit.

Time will tell, as you say.

It will Kaz. However the thing which is least likely is the UK re-joining the EU. There is less than 30% support for joining the Euro and for Schengen. Both of which will be mandatory if we choose to try to join again. That door is closed and our prior opt-out's are history.

I look forward to the UK making a place in the world as in independent and proud nation. But nobody is doing much of anything in the world today apart from China and that's mostly aggressive posturing. It will take at least 18 months to shake off the Covid impact and then we'll see where the UK stands.
