If the other 25 were such glorious successes why do we need a 26th? Hadn't we sorted the problem? Well, no, we played at it.

In 1992, in Rio, we started this farce and nothing has substantially changed. Except that back then the global population was about 5.5bn; it is now 7.8bn - a rise of almost 50%. All those (extra) people need food, water, shelter, clothes, education, medicines, services....but forget all that. Heat pumps (aircon) electric cars, and Quorn burgers will save us.

When I was born, in 1953, the global population was 2.6bn, it is now three times that. Sod the climate, we are well past the tipping point in that regard due to lead times of what the planet can sustain, or help us, even in the short to medium term. Think of the various environments.

What we need is a proper pandemic. If it does in the business peeps, bankers and economists and their dream of eternal economic growth and leaves the rest alone, so much the better.

"Put another billionaire on the barbie, Bruce, but remember, I like mine medium rare".

Millions and millions are being born in countries where there is nothing for them.
So they want to come to Europe, from Africa, the middle East, Asia - it's not on. Why should we be expected to try and be the overflow for other countries?
And the more people, the more consumption of finite resources, the more rubbish is produced etc etc.

So Boris says we are one minute from midnight well I would say how many minutes was it before they all arrived in Glasgow in their private jets etc?

And then there's Joe swanning around in Rome with his 85 car entourage, not to mention Musk and Besos on their yachts in the Med.

Also Saint Greta ,how did she get to Glasgow ,walked across the North Sea did she?Or doesn't her carbon footprint count.

Roll on Sunday I will have another beef joint for lunch

Stop talking sense, but....

"Hang on" say some technological biochemists, engineers and entrepreneurs, "We can use that animal feedstock for our 3D printed meat substitutes".

You think I'm kidding.

Take a look at this. And don't forget the bugs and mealworm burgers coming down the line.

Enjoy your supper.

Give the lass her due, Thunberg was reported as having travelled by train - I think it's her preferred mode of transport. She's lucky she made it beyond Euston, given the chaos there over the weekend .....

Yes, there are times when one has to put their core beliefs to one side in order to attend such meetings. It might appear to be hypocritical but how else can they get the message across given all the fanfares and plaudits of the flown-in "official" attendees, 30,000 or so, who will do little or nothing?

This is simply an exercise in damage limitation. Those heads of state didn't come to talk about what they were going to DO to fix this mess. They came to make sure that what was decided was limited to exactly what they wanted to give and not a step further.

Ossie, Greta may have come by Train, but she lives in Sweden. Unless she came over from somewhere else. Have you ever tried going anywhere from Sweden by Train? Especially the UK. I looked it up once. To go home for a weekend, I could leave on Friday, arrive on Sunday evening and turn around and go back on Sunday night and arrive back in Sweden on Tuesday evening.

It's great for someone who doesn't actually Do very much of anything. Not so good for us poor sods who actually have to work mon-fri.

Anyway, it's all a moot point. We needed to be Net Zero by 2000. Because we couldn't be arsed doing that we're screwed. Each COP circus where nothing of real substance happens just means we are more seriously screwed than we were before.

When the peeepul finally realise how totally screwed they are, they're going to be running around SCREAMING "WHY DIDN'T YOU FIX IT". The answer will be simple. "You didn't believe it was a problem, wouldn't vote for it and sure as hell wouldn't pay for it. Hope you enjoy the ride."

And that about sums it up.

On the upside my DIL got a chunk of overtime for it....

There is no such thing as NET ZERO - not for an individual, a household, a city, a country, a continent or a planet. Please stop using it. You are being played by the sloganistas.

But back to COP. Today up to 100 world leaders (almost half) will sign up to end deforestation and to even begin to restore forests. On average each country will get about $145mn over an unknown period, probably ten years, a figure that means a lot for some and peanuts for others.

We need to hope that it goes better than a similar deal in 2014 which achieved the square root of sod all.
