The Channel invasion. Did you ever wonder why..

It's not being stopped?
One reason is allegedly international treaties which forbid "push back" of illegal immigrants, aka "migrants".
That may be so, but just read, if you can bear it, the attached article.

It explains a lot.

I was going to post a similar question when I saw the figures in what was, for the BBC, a side article yesterday. However, nothing was said about how ineffective in dealing with the problem or how sysmpathetic to the illegals the management of the Border Force is and has been. It was mostly a sob story.

By year's end the number of illegals having entered the country will be a community about the same size as Thetford. That community will need the same numbers of homes, schools, medical facilities and staff, transport, shops and infrastructure of Thetford. We cannot continue with this - it has to stop.

We have a duty to help genuine refugees / assylum seekers and those who have applied officially for immigration. However, international laws and treaties allow us to return illegals from whence they came, and that is what we should be doing - now, today, last week.

The only way you are going to be able to do this is to suspend all human rights and appeal legislation, as far as I can see. And there's no political will to do that.
And now we have the sight of migrants apparently berating Border Force employees in Dover about the state of their over-crowded accommodation ... (BBC TV News report last week)

I hope this heaps terminal pressure on Patel. She must now put up or shut up, no more ineffective ranting from her please.

The BBC and Sky are running heart tugging stories about the plight of the Syrians, Iraqis and Yemenis camped on the 200km long Belarus / Poland border trying to enter the EU. They are unwashed, unfed, living (if you can call it that) in makeshift tents and as winter creeps in temperatures are dropping. It really is heartbreaking.

But hang on. Nobody is asking how these thousands made the overland journey of 3,000km (5,000km in the case of the Yemenis) to get there.

These are not families who just got up one day and in desperation wandered off. These are planned, organised, movements and with sophisticated logistics to achieve them. It is the same story with those crossing the Med from Africa. We need to be doing more, a hell of a lot more, to close these routes down and apprehend and jail the traffickers.

The big problem is that there is not the political will to act.

Turkey has banned general flights to Belarus. Someone did ask the question as to how they got there. Apparently many of them got on a plane....

They are expecting the EU to cave and let them in. I wonder if they will fall for that again with Merkel on the outs?

The constant illegal shuffling continues here in France. We seen new faces every month, old faces move on. Often I wonder if the shuffle deliberately ends close to the ports?

Unfortunately the UK is hampered by it's liberal history and fair courts. Eventually we're going to need something offshore where we take the illegals for processing. Offshore because they are not on UK property and from there they can be dispersed to other places without recourse to the courts.

Harsh but it's going to have to happen sometime. Perhaps when the public realise the billions trying to get in. It doesn't add up. It never added up.

This is it. As WM points out, the media are frantically spinning this as a humanitarian crisis. Not to me it isn't. The crisis is, as you say, that vast parts of the third world want to move to the first world, and hand wringing isn't going to stop them. Europe's borders have to be defended by force because otherwise this is never going to stop.
Maybe the Poles will be the first to realise this.

Poland is the largest recipient of EU funds... Think again.

Maybe Suff. But according to reports Polish border guards have been stoned by migrants and had laser beams shone into their eyes. I can't see them standing for any more of that.

The problem with standing on the moral high ground is that you are perfectly positioned for the scum of the earth to bite your ankles off.

If you take one step off the moral high ground you get treated like the scum of the earth.

The laws and judgements of the ECJ are decades of decisions in peaceful harmony of democracies in times of peace.

They are in no way prepared for this kind of cynical attack on their borders.

Of course they could pass a law, get together with Denmark and fly the "refugees" to Rwanda to make their asylum applications. Plenty of Antonov's for hire, JLR had them on standby for parts when Brexit finally happened.

This, naturally, would be a serious bummer for "refugees" because they have no intention of staying in Poland or applying to stay in Poland. Nothing would stop it faster than calls home to say they wound up in Rwanda. Even further from their goal than when they started. The Poles could even make sure that Rwanda provided free mobile phone network access for voice just to make sure the message got through.

That moral high ground though. Sure is a bitch sometimes.

The EU is supporting Poland and has applied sanctions on Belarus because of its actions and the ECJ has no comptences to rule against.

The ECHR, not an EU institution, sees differently but cannot force the issue. It has requested that Poland, Latvia and Lithuania help with food, water, clothing and medical attention but says that “this measure should not be understood as requiring that Poland or Latvia let the applicants (illegals) enter their territories.”

The ECHR cannot force countries to let illegals in.

Sending illegals to a third country outside of Europe or the EU is not the answer. Dealing with them forcefully on the borders is. That is not taking the moral high ground, it is being sensible.
