Cressida Dick is stepping down - and out.
She'll not be missed by the police in general nor Londoners in particular.
Most will be hoping for a proper police officer to take charge and not some politically correct appointee. They might be disappointed.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... -quit.htmlLong overdue - good riddance, to be honest. Still, I'm sure she'll be getting a nice fat pension ......
Whoever takes over will have one heck of a task sorting out the mess the Met had become.

Senior police officers are more of a political position now than a policing one. It's highly likely that they will be disappointed.

She should never have risen to the heights that she did.
However it does strike me that she has become a useful fall guy for Sadiq Khan. If she goes, shouldn't he go too?

I think there are many more police officers in the higher ranks of the Metropolitan Police who need to go before Sadiq Khan does, TBH. There is a lot of muck that needs to be swept out of that particular stable, and Cressida Dick should not be the end of it, only the beginning. The whole culture of the top command there needs to be looked at.

Not just the top command in my opinion.

Perhaps when organisations grow too big, they get too difficult to manage?
Thinking of the Met here but also the NHS, which is in dire need of reform but due not least to vested interests inside the NHS, is unlikely to get it.

Especially in the public sector where various quotas and agendas now have to be met - or else! So we have to have many female and / or BAME people and /or members of the "Let's Go By Train" crowds promoted regardless of ability in order to be "diverse". What we end up with are multiple kakistocracies rather than meritocracies.
We see it from the Houses of Lords and Commons through political parties of all colours down to primary school pupil committees. It has been going on for decades, centuries even, but it is worse today than it ever was.

When I worked in a part of the public sector it was announced that from now on the organisation had a target of 30% BAME for recruitment.
This begs a question which did get asked.
"If you aren't hitting those targets, isn't the pressure going to be on to take a BAME candidate regardless of whether they are the best candidate?".
"Oh no," came the blithe answer "our interview process will always be fair".
The answer wasn't widely believed.

No it begs a far more fundamental question.
How can you set it at 30% when they are 18% of the population?
