Datsun gone!

Nissan have dropped the name: again!

I remember them. Started first time every morning, unlike Fords, Vauxhalls and BMCs, but they were colanders from day one, just that the holes got bigger over time!

I bought my first brand new car, an Audi 80, when in RAFG in 1978. We had a hangar next to the runway at RAF Wildenrath with a good straight run on the peri track. One weekend we had a '"race" - standing half mile, open to all.

There were Golf GTI's, Opel Mantas, Audis, VX 4/90s, Cortina Ghias, you name it.

Tim won in his ancient Datsun 160Y. Mind you he was a ticketed rally driver and there wasn't much bodywork left to cause any drag.

I remember Datsuns the first time around as well. Datsun Cherry?
Plus they put out some top sports cars like the Datsun 240Z. Straight six, quick and reliable. Showed the MGB up for the relic that it was.
Opel Manta! I used to love the Manta GTE; that's one car I really wish I'd owned.

I had a 1.2l Datsun Cherry in BAOR, 1 year old when I bought it etremely reliable and when you replaced the points with an optical breaker set, it would do 115mph on the autobahn.

Whilst all the cheap Ford Escorts sounded like coffee grinders and did 20mpg whilst being thrashed down the autobahn, my Datsun was quiet, efficient and reliable.

Oh what will they be called this time then? I love my Nissan Qashqai and she will be 12 years old this year

I just asked Tim if he had heard anything, he hasn't and we've googled and the only info we can find about a change of name and logo dates back to 2016

Can you give me a link please

In 1931, DAT Jidosha Seizo became affiliated with Tobata Casting and was merged into Tobata Casting in 1933. As Tobata Casting was a Nissan company, this was the beginning of Nissan's automobile manufacturing

Datsun: Until 1983, Nissan automobiles in most export markets were sold under the Datsun brand. In 1984 the Datsun brand was phased out and the Nissan brand was phased in. All cars in 1984 had both the Datsun and Nissan branding on them and in 1985 the Datsun name was completely dropped. In July 2013, Nissan announced the relaunch of Datsun as a brand targeted at emerging markets.[96][97]
