It has just been announced that Max Clifford has been charged with eleven counts of indecent assault.


The CPS has said that it will charge publicist Max Clifford with eleven indecent assaults on women between 1966 and 1985.

The full list of charges are:
One offence of indecent assault relating to a girl, aged 14, in 1966
One offence of indecent assault relating to a woman, aged 18, in 1974/75
Three offences of indecent assault relating to a girl, aged 15, in 1977/78
One offence of indecent assault relating to a woman, aged 19, in 1978
Two offences of indecent assault relating to a girl, aged 16 or 17, in 1981/82
One offence of indecent assault relating to a woman, aged 19, in 1980/81
Two offences of indecent assault relating to a woman, aged 18, in 1984/85

He vehemently denies the charges. They need to bring this to trial quickly so that the evidence can be tested.

Crikey though, what sort of evidence are you going to get from 1966? Surely that can only be word on word?

Hard evidence? Very little, I guess - but by putting seven witnesses on the stand, you seek to demonstrate a particular course or trait in behaviour exhibited by the accused - ("he was always at it, m'Lud") - and that is what they will major on.

What exactly is "Indecent assault" and how was it legally defined in the years in question? It certainly wasn't the same as it is today.

Can you imagine the defending legal team behind MC? They will be delving and digging the dirt on every single one of the accusers. I wouldn't like to be one of them. Forty seven years ago!

To be honest I agree with Fugitive as Max will no doubt have a top QC and will tear the witness statements apart.

Shame Ian Hislop isn't a QC. He is the only person I can think of who must be so squeaky clean to be as sanctimonious and smug as he is

he went to the same school as my late husband.. We had a long chat with him at an old boys reunion.. Pompous yes.. Arrogant yes.. however a decent chap who has never really courted publicity. Private Eye always worth reading....
