Just found out J had to report tomorrow for jury service
For 2weeks
He won't get paid from work
And can only claim £64per day from court expenses
So he will lose, about £1,000 in wages he is a store manager
I find that disgusting
And he has no choice in the matter im,shocked
He has just said if he is,only there half a day he can only claim £35

That's bad. Not many can afford to lose that amount of money.

:cute: That's rough. Really, the courts should replace his lost wages at the very least. Although, I must say I am surprised his firm will dock his salary, at management level, seeing as it's a civic duty that he can't get out of, that's pretty tight! :?

I would check here, Saundra. https://www.gov.uk/jury-service/what-yo ... n-employee

Getting paid during jury service

Your employer can choose whether or not to pay you during your service.

If they do not pay you, you can claim for loss of earnings from the court.

There might be more to claim, See the calculator at the bottom of the page.

It is not good, though. Anyone doing jury service should not lose out - not one penny.

I just looked at the table for self employed.

It is a joke. They are not even covering minimum wage. I'm with WM, ensuring justice is served in the UK should not cost the jurors 1 penny.

Looking at what they want to pay and the cost they would impose on me, I would be inclined to vote against the government in every case which did not incur damage to people.

Tax avoidance? Not guilty, ditto parking fine, driving illegally and a whole host of other things.

After all the judge and all the lawyers and clerical staff get paid. But the jury of your peers? Those actually charged with making the decision on the guilt or innocence of a defendant? No they don't need to be paid properly.

Fortunately for the courts I'm not on anyone's list.
