We are surviving on science and not the natural order.

The latest evidence is that scientists have tweaked plant genes to make photosynthesis more productive. Without this move, some 660 million of us will be in danger of starvation or malnutrition in the near future.

How about we gradually reduce our numbers, stop over fishing, stop trashing the environment, stop pretending that we can all live as we do today with our cars, aircon, CH, strawberries in February, flying everywhere to get temps we call "heatwaves" back home?

The Earth is running out of resources. We can do all the tweaking we like, but eventually there will be no more to be done. We are fast approaching that time.

We live under an economic system of consumerist capitalism.
The more consumers there are, the more goods are sold and bigger profits are made.
Which is why overpopulation is never mentioned when we talk about the future.
At the moment government and big business are pretending that we can have it all.
We can cope with unlimited immigration, we will somehow manage to feed, clothe, educate and care for an unlimited number of people.
Some bright spark will invent artificial food and drink and the world won't really run out of resources.
We will rewild the countryside, thus taking land out of food production at a time when the population is soaring, but that won't matter.
It's a complete fairy story.

Don't worry the planet is going to deal with us long before we choke it to death with our progeny.
