Lawlessness

Postby cromwell » 24 Aug 2022, 14:13

Appears to be on the increase.
Criminals appear to have little fear of the law, of the consequences of their actions.

In Liverpool over the last weekend three people were violently killed, all women.
A mother trying to break up a fight, stabbed to death.
A thirty year old young woman, shot dead in her own back garden and a nine year old child, shot dead in her own home when a convicted drug dealer was fleeing from someone shooting at him. Her mother and the target were also shot.

In Cardiff a criminal released half way through an eight year jail sentence broke into a house and raped a mother and her fourteen year old daughter whilst high on drugs, five days after being released from jail.

In the next village from us a young man died after being sucker punched by another criminal who had been released from jail early.

As for London, I can't keep up. Six people murdered over four days recently. Also a 4x4 being driven at 120mph in the early hours of the morning with the inevitable resulting crash, death and injuries.

Last week we had a white VW Golf being chased by the police at 100mmph along the main road.

There's no fear of the police or the useless justice system.
Something needs to change because innocent people are dying because of the failings of our criminal justice system.

The justice system has been failing for years.

An old friend trained to be a probation officer and rose through the ranks. She packed in around 2002/3 because she could not do her job the way she had been trained and thought it should be done. It had been a drip-drip process for years and enough was enough.

The influx and influence of the politically correct cohorts did it for her. Education went the same way.

Two cousins also resigned from the police for much the same reasons. Educational standards and personal qualities were reduced so that anyone could join - anyone. Diversity?

I wish that they had all stayed and fought their corners, but they were on a losing battle. The result is what we have today.

I was scared of, but also respected, our local cop "Lippy" (a hair lip) He could do more to keep us in line than all the courts in the land. He was approachable but also firm and fair. You did wrong he would give you a bollocking, you did bad he would nick you

It has. I used to work for a police force and I saw how it started to change in the 90's. The focus was very much on being politically correct. Well, now we have a very politically correct police service, but one that just gets worse at what it is supposed to do, preventing and detecting crime. I just feel sorry for the front line coppers, for the others I pretty much have no regard for them.

But when you start letting people out early only for them to commit appalling crimes within days, something is very, very badly wrong.

This is the sort of thing D was absolutely against. Minimum sentencing and early release.

Add in little or no monitoring of these people once they are out and it was a recipe for what we have now. They don 't even turn up and have every excuse under the sun - all believed, never challenged.

It will be very costly in manpower and cash to reverse, so it will not be done.

In Vietnam, after the US left, they said that the drugs problem could never be solved, it was too ingrained and that it couldn't be cut out.

The Vietnamese had a simply solution. Every time they caught a drug dealer they killed them. They kept doing this till there were no drug dealers left or they had gone so far underground that they were invisible.

It worked. OK the regime was pretty harsh and loads of people died who should not have. However, this solution works.

People deal drugs they die. Eventually there is nobody left to deal drugs... But we have decided that they can't die and that we must let them out. They run their drugs empire from Prison until they can get out early then they keep on doing what they do. With sentences so low and release so early, why fear the police?

Now we find that the man who was being shot at in Liverpool had also been released early from jail.

I note that the ban on pistols hasn't stopped people being murdered with them. IMO all it did was flood the market with guns which had been kept over from relatives and not registered.

I don't like or trust authoritative regimes but I see no other option.

There have been some cases like that Suff.
But also obsolete calibre ammunition being run up for obsolete calibre pistols which until recently could be bought without having to notify the police, and plain old fashioned smuggling. After all, if you can smuggle a ton of cocaine into the country you can certainly bring in a pistol.

This report off Birmingham's social news feed deals with gang warfare currently being waged - with guns - in the city. I'm pretty glad we moved away from there now.
A 13 yo boy shot in the back in Hockley and left paralysed for the "crime" of walking on the wrong side of the road.

I have felt for a long time now that as a deterrent, we should either have no-parole life imprisonment (or simply reinstate the death penalty) for horrific crimes like this and the one in Liverpool; my views are unlikely to change.

I was trying to do some research on the death penalty. I found a lot of articles around the end of the 90's and the early 2000's which were balanced and looked at both sides. Now it's almost impossible to find anything which is not "BAN THE DEATH PENALTY". I kept on digging until I got to a study which proudly claimed that out of 75 studies they all proved that the death penalty had no impact. In the abstract it basically said that once they had removed all the studies showing that the death penalty did have an impact on murders, on technical grounds, then all the remaining studies agreed with their point of view.

After that it wasn't worth looking any more. Well not until I get a dedicated block of time in which I could search. Then, I guess, I'll have better things to do.

It was interesting that 6:10 US citizens are in favour of the death penalty overall. Which means if they held a US wide referendum on it then it would stay.
