The one that proposes £15,000 fines or jail if you do not conform to net zero rules on how energy efficient your house has to be.

So basically we are approaching crunch time now.
Net zero won't be a theory for much longer; it's going to start affecting our lives in ways that we won't like.

Net zero rules, the ban on the sale of petrol and diesel cars seems years off, but every year that passes brings reality nearer.
We seem to be heading for a rather authoritarian future; do as you are told, or else.

eta - There hasn't been much said about this in the media.

Well the alternative that the crazies want is a carbon tax on everything you consume.

Net result is every thing in your life becomes a lot more expensive forcing you to consume less.

I do wonder how many with no insulation or double glazing are going to put aside money not paid for energy as the prices start to fall and invest it in insulation and heat loss control?

My guess would be very few.

The UK made a commitment. Legislation is now beginning to mandate we comply with that commitment.

You could live in China. It is becoming impossible to register a fossil burner there. Companies are going under and jobs being lost because of the cars stacking up on dealer lots which simply can't be sold at any price.

The world is changing. Finally. You are just seeing a small slice of that change and not the full picture.

Apart from in the media I cannot find anyhing in the Bill's precis I have read to say that "homeowners" face bills of £15k. Businesses maybe, but that's about it.

The problem I have with this Energy Bill is that is is too big, all-encompassing and clumsy. It is trying to be a "bill of everything".

It could be broken down into, say, four smaller bills each dealing in finer detail with one set of interconnected problems. I am not totally against the thrust of what is intended but it has to be understandable. For politicians that means short sentences with words of fewer than six characters / letters - no emojis.

198 Power to make energy performance regulations

(3) Energy performance regulations may—

(e) impose requirements on any person;

200 Sanctions
(1) The enforcement provision that may be made includes provision—
(a)

for a person with public functions to enforce a requirement imposed
by or under energy performance regulations;
(b) about the sanctions for non-compliance with a requirement imposed
by or under energy performance regulations;
(c) about the sanctions for the provision of false information in connection
with such a requirement;
(d) about the sanctions for obstruction of, or impersonation of, an 35
enforcement authority or a person acting for an enforcement authority.

(2) Energy performance regulations may provide for the imposition of civil
penalties by enforcement authorities in relation to cases falling within
40
subsection (1)(b), (c) or (d); but the regulations may not provide for a civil
penalty that exceeds £15,000.

Then under 1 a 30 (c) and (d) I assume these are criminal.

(3) Energy performance regulations may provide for the creation of criminal
offences in relation to cases falling within subsection (1)(b), (c) or (d); but the
regulations may not provide for a criminal offence to be punishable—
(a) with imprisonment for a term exceeding 12 months, or
(b) with a fine of more than level 5 on the standard scale.

I looked up the standard scale of fines and level 5. Fine? Unlimited. Hard to get more than Unlimited.

So it does not specify between businesses or people. It just says any person and non compliance then impersonating or lying to a regulator. Which I assume are criminal and carry pretty hefty penalties.

It is all very draconian.
