Just heard on an X space that Israel has done a full general call up of all reserves, men, women, everyone.

I have friends there and extended family. With Netanyahu as the PM with a fairly large majority this is not going to end soon or well.

I hope everyone is safe and that their families are safe.

Looks like a Putin misdirection event through Iran to me. This is far too organised, far too coordinated and is a nation state level attack, not a terrorist move. Shades of IS and I do wonder where a lot of their trained fighters went.

The response may take a day or two more but it is going to be crushing. That was obvious, Israel crushed Syria and Egypt, what is Hammas? So why do it?

Peace talks between Israel and Saudi Arabia were supposed to be going ahead soon; some are speculating that the attack is an attempt to derail those talks.

There will never be peace in the Middle East. Some factions want the total destruction of the state of Israel, nothing less. You can't make peace with them ever.

Hamas are barbarians; taking women, children and old people as hostages and parading the dead bodies of murdered people around on trucks. Barbarians.

This attack took at least a year to organise. The Saudi talks may be seen as a trigger but the attack was planned anyway.

It will be good to hold in mind the "barbarian" focus as the days go on because Hamas hide behind civilians and Israel need to root them all out.

One senior US officer is likening Gaza to Falluja. Where the US took over total control of the city, controlled the civilians and then exterminated the insurgents like vermin. It took months with the full power of the US army.

Corbyn and Abbott are suspended as Labour MPs and Corbyn is banned from standing as a Labour MP; this might also apply to Abbott. They cannot "just" be kicked out of Labour party any more than Sunhat can "just" kick rabid right-wing rabble-rousers out of the Conservative party.

I think Victor is talking about the half of the party that share similar views to Corby but are not willing to say it.

It is not possible or feasible to take any action on that.

As the Israeli defence strike rolls on in Gaza, I expect the grinding of teeth and rending of beards as the full cost of rooting out Hamas comes to the fore.

It took the US months to purge Falluja and they killed thousands. Hamas will throw civilians in the line of fire until the outrage becomes too much. It is at that time that the people of the world should read the Hamas covenant. Then they might understand what the solution to the violence has to be.

This Israeli and Hamas thing could go on for weeks, but it is nothing like Fallujah. Israel is not going in to "take back" Gaza or other cities in the strip - it doesn't want to. It has already turned off the water, energy (gas and electricity) and food supplies. Next it will hit (hopefully carefully selected) targets from the air and stand-off artillery whilst closing the border with ground troops. I see the Hamas death toll this morning is 1,500.

This will go on for a few weeks until the US tells them to stop, then there will be talks and a possible truce.

Not sure about this. They have stated Hamas has to go. The only way to get Hamas out is to comb the whole city and take it under Israeli control. Those tanks on the border are not to close the border. They are to project power into the city itself. Although Tanks are extremely poor tools for taking a city as dense as Gaza.

BTW, similar runs the gamut from not neutral on the subject to raving nutjobs on the subject. Sorry should have been more specific.
