During the horsemeat scandal millions upon millions of perfectly healthy meals were sent for destruction simply because they were "contaminated" with ingredients not noted on the packets. There was never any proof that anyone would die, or even get ill, from eating the meals, it was just that they were not as described.
Now the United Nation's WHO has come up with the idea that in order to fend off World starvation we should eat more insects: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-22508439 such as dung beetles, caterpillars and grasshoppers. Is this the future for us all?
How about if we didn't throw away so much good food, as we already do, and shared out what we do have a bit more equitably? And how about if we didn't keep breeding so many of us food eaters, so that there was not so much pressure on food stocks?
BTW I have eaten locusts, skink, sea urchins, snails and other such delicacies as "treats", but I wouldn't want to do so on a regular basis.
