We need more gas fired power stations.

They will be needed to keep the lights on because current renewables cannot meet the demand; so says the PM, Risky Sunhat.

No! We need more small modular reactors (SMRs) and lots more environmentally less damaging small hydro units. The UK is awash with suitable rivers and stream for local use: use them!

We have got to get away from this "eggs in one basket" thinking and step outside of the box.

Agree with you there WM.

We also need the SMR skills in country and to be selling it to others once we have perfected delivery at home.

My dear friend R*** had an online consult with a rather lovely surgeon recently:

“Oh I do wish you didn’t have the same name as our PM (Rishi), as you’re such a lovely man….”

“Ah, but R***, the difference is that I know what I’m talking about….”

The Conservatives have a habit.

They talk Conservative before an election, before reverting to being wetter than a haddock's vest after it.

Yes, we need more gas power stations and more small modular reactors.

Whether we will get either is uncertain though. Sunak will lose the next election, so his promise of more gas reactors will have to be enacted by Starmer, who is as green as Lidl bananas. More likely they will be cancelled. And anything nuclear invariably goes before "an inquiry" which takes ten years before saying "No".
