Working People

I workrd full time from leaving school at 18 until I retired at 64.

I have managed to buy my own house and saved some money. The only "benefit" I get is the normal State Pension.

Now Kier thinks I am not "working" class". He has never got his hands dirty.

And there are many MP's renting out property.

Don' do as I do, do as I say.

Ah the vagaries of the English language. "Working people" means different things to different readers, doesn't it? For some it is those in manual work - making things, repairing things, whilst for others it is anyone who works day in and day out on a regular basis no matter what they do.

Then there is the definition of what "work" actually is - another minefield.

It was a clumsy phrase to use, but that's politicians for you.

Blunkett is probably right when he says that we need a new phraseology. The old Working class / Middle class / Upper class descriptions are well past their sell-by date.

I think that I know what Starmer was getting at, but I am not sure.

Perhaps he meant people who make their money by working, as opposed to those who make their money from the money they already have.

That is what I thought, so why didn't he say it?

Labour's communication is not what it should be: is it?

Thus far they are saying things without actually saying anything. It's early days, but they do need to sharpen up or the media will rip them to shreds. Once that starts it will never cease.

It's a soundbite. When asked to explain it, Starmer can't.

Soundbites... never been done before!

If we regard our "hands, face, space" we could "eat out to help out", "take back control" and "get Berksit done", we might even "stop the boats".

I wonder where they came from, eh?

That would be Starmer, would it?

Oooh, look at that sea of blue when the Cons, Johnson and other cronies, were in power.

Also figures based on data from the MPs’ register of interests between September 2023 and August 2024.- 141 Tory MPs received £359,891 in free gifts, 118 Labour MPs netted £298,151 worth of gifts.

Not that it has anything to do with defining who "working people" are.
