So now ARLA are or will be adding chemical/s to their products to stop cows from producing so much methane.
I presume all the celebs will ground their private jets or lier starmer will cut down on his flights

We are talking of Bovaer, a food additive for cows that reduces methane burps.

Agriculture creates 49% of CO2 emissions in the UK - 27% from cows.- so every litle helps. It is non-toxic for the cows and does not enter into their milk or meat as it is broken down in their digestive system and passes safely through.

Ah, "but it's chemicals" and "unnatural" they cry. Well, yes it is, but so is seaweed, another method of reducing methane burps, but we seem to be OK with that. The vast majority of cows never normally graze on seaweed but the conspiracy theorists never mention that.

Mountain / molehill problem.

It was approved for use in the UK under the Tories (Risky Sunhat) so what it has to do with Starmer or celebs is anybody's guess.

Just to add.

We humans also eat foods laden with chemicals: flavourings; sweeteners; colourings; bulkers; preservatives and other non-natural ingredients. And our crops are grown using insecticides, pesticides and artificial fertilizers, but we seem to get on OK. See your latest ready-meal or takeaway for details.

Why aren't the zealots throwing all that food in the bin?

If we went 100% organic there would not be so much food about and there would be fewer of us about because many would starve... Oh, hang on, that might not be a bad thing.

So how come that this is only being trialed with cows that are lactating and NOT with beef cattle or don't they exhale methane.

Probably because bullocks (beef) only produce about 1/3 of the methane dairy cows do. Cows are in the majority and give us our daily milk, cheese etc. and cheaper cuts of meat. It's a numbers game.

Cows have been producing milk for centuries without many problems.

So now Starmer intends to make it law by 2030 that ALL cattle will have to be fed this chemical.

Local farmer Ruth Kimber (Wincanton) writing in the local Blackmore Vale fortnightly paper, says they won't touch the additive with a bargepole.

The idea is to feed an addtive which will reduce methane from cattle. To include the recommended dose as an additive of 1 gm per 20kg of food when feeding 200 or so cows through a diet feeder will mean it is difficult to make sure all the cows have the prescribed dose. Some will have too much and others none in their diet - during summer when cows graze , how will it be admininstered then?
This additive has to be handled by the farmer using protective clothing, gloves and masks, raising alarm bells. ......... This multi-billion company has not had enough time to assess the unintended consequences. Cows' health, farmers' health, produce from these animals, effect on the land and so on.

Starmer is an idiot. They should feed it to him first to stop him spouting hot air.

So, who do we trust more? The trials carried out over 15 years in 68 countries, including Australia, Canada, North America and Brazil, or our FSA, the European FSA, the NFU or those 'experts' Leilani on Facebook, Roxy from TikTok, JonC also from TikTok or Stuart on X?

And just to reiterate once more, this all kicked off under the Tories and Sunak, The trials about to get underway have been in the pipeline since December 2023 (last year) along with the 2030 deadline.
