How this govt keep finding extra out of the so called "black hole"
£50 million for Syria.
Big increases for the train drivers etc.
Big bonuses for the civil servants that worked on stopping the winter fuel payments.

I am shocked that civil servants can collect bonuses. They do a job which they are paid to do and that should be the end of it.

The £50 million for Syria is not in £ notes, it is food aid, medical supplies and equipment and tented accommodation for the homeless. Without it many would die - some of us care about that.

The train driver's pay increases for 2022-23, 23-24 and 24-25 were 5% (backdated), 4.75% and 4.5%. During those times inflation was 11.6%, 9.7% and 3.6% today and rising. They look like reductions to me, not BIG increases.

I agree that civil servants should not get bonuses for doing a job they signed up for and are paid for, but nobody got a bonus for stopping the Winter Fuel Payment. That's just a weak attempt at political points scoring with no basis in fact.

Vic, the problem is the raw number - £50 million.

However, it works out at about the cost of a small bar of chocolate for every person in the UK. I think that we can all survive without one day's sugar fix in order to save someone's life. It's one day for us - a lifetime for them.

We still have not been told where the 23million , or was it 23 billion black hole was.

If the accounts let the budget be overspend even by one pound, they should have raised RED flags.

When I was working I had to account for every penny. I always had to produce receipts.
