Ukraine Peace Talks

This press conference was shocking to watch. Trump behaved like a playground bully and humiliated Zelensky but at least Zelensky stood his ground. Why were these talks held in public. They should have been behind closed doors with a statement to the Press if and when the talks were successful. There is place for everything and there was no place for such crucial negotiations to be conducted in front of the press and on full camera.

I don’t know how Zelensky didn’t smack away that bullying pointy finger. An absolutely disgraceful scene, unprecedented. I was in two minds about this supposed deal - on the one hand, I felt that maybe it might help if money going into Ukraine for all the minerals would help rebuild the country. On the other hand, I wouldn’t trust Trump as far as I would throw him, and so it proved to be. Sane Americans must be cringing with embarrassment, but Trump’s supporters probably feel he gave Zelensky a bloody nose. :?

It has to be Trump - left, right and centre.

He is a narcissist and a megalomaniac, and they make him a very dangerous man indeed. How the US electorate made him POTUS for a second time will remain a mystery but thankfully, for them and the rest of the world, he is on his last term.

What would be a great laugh is if the G20 got together and slapped 100% tariffs on US goods and services... just for a while you understand.

The US is not the global economy, despite what Trump thinks. Others. acting in unison, could force the US economy into isolation. It might be worth a shot.

It was disgraceful. I don't know how Zelenskyy managed to keep his cool - I'd have completely supported him if he'd walked out then and there.
Americans, sane or not, should now be reviled across Europe and rightly so. And someone needs to start a petition to Charles to get him to rescind this projected state visit ego-trip.
How many more wake-up calls does Europe now need? America is completely untrustworthy.
And what is more worrying is that upstart Vance waiting in the wings ....

We watched this too and couldn't believe what was happening. It was utterly shocking.

I actually felt a frisson of fear.

Trump is a very dangerous man.

Now it's getting really serious ....... :)

RoI isn't the only country that's going to have to step up to the plate if we are to forge a "United Europe". And I want to see something a lot more concrete from the UK too, and soon.

Trump can't really lose though can he?

If Zelenskyy agrees to a peace deal Trump gets a good deal on the Ukraine's minerals. If he doesn't Trump just turns off the aid tap to the Ukraine and saves the US billions.
Win win. Trump doesn't have to worry about re-election as he can't stand next time, so popularity or the lack of it doesn't come into play.

As the UK will soon be effectively bankrupt thanks to net zero and the government's fiscal incompetence, that is going to be difficult.
Perhaps we can develop a rifle that doesn't put out any nasty polluting gunsmoke when it is fired; or form a Brigade of Human Rights lawyers and diversity officers. That will have Putin quaking in his boots.

Unfortunately Starmer and Macron have been posing as big players on the international stage with their "Unwavering support" for the Ukraine. If the US doesn't commit to support the Ukraine militarily, expect to see a Europe wide outbreak of wavering.

Lastly, and I know that this is not going to be popular on here, I don't want one British soldier to die in the Ukraine, not one. Especially when so many Ukrainian men of military age have fled the country rather than fight.

Trump is very stupid and vain, and unfortunately that does make him very dangerous :(
