There are many people who just believe that roads are only for cars and also they have absolutely NO idea just how fast they are driving on small lanes or the reaction times or stopping distances involved. Had she met a 10 ton truck she would not have been able to tweet about it, she would have been in hospital or dead. Something I hope the police will impress upon her.
I see it as two things really. Once the shock was over she would have tried to justify it to herself. The second thing is that young people seem to feel that the first thing they must do, immediately, after something has happened, is to blather about it online.
She'll learn. She was driving dangerously and left the scene of an accident. Then showed absolutely NO remorse with her tweet.
Hopefully she'll get a short ban which may reinforce the reality in her mind that there are other users on the road and that she has a legal obligation to make sure that she does not kill or injure them. I'm not even sure that she understood that you simply do not drive away when you have had an accident. She will after this is all over.
What do they teach new drivers nowadays? I wouldn't know as I never sat a civilian drivers test, all mine were in the Army with a QTO (Queens Testing Officer). I recall being young and stupid too with this kind of justification. We just didn't have twitter around to expose that stupidity to the whole world.

Have driven for nearly sixty years. A lot of young drivers do not think there should be anyone else on the road and that the law does not apply to them.
A good deterent to stop drivers using mobile phones or other similar offences would be to immediately impound the car and make the driver find his own way to their destination.

As I suspected at the time there was more to the story than that presented. The cyclist had his 15 mins of fame, now the driver has had hers.
The one thing that is clear is that she should not have tweeted; had that been the case there would have been no story. Another lesson, if more were needed, of the dangers of social media. Save your rants for the cafe or pub and nobody will be any the wiser....

I'd have thought that the high profile events over the last two decades would have cured almost everyone of brainless moves.
From the guy in the early 90's who thought it would be fun to forward the email from his girlfriend, explicitly what she would sexually do to him the next time they met, to his work colleagues; which was forwarded to millions. To the current crop of people being politically castrated on a daily basis for thoughtlessly blurting out complete drivel to the whole world.
It appears that there is a new generation of brainless dingbats every 10 years or so who have to learn the same things all over again. Perfect politicians though.... Should not be in charge of a car though.....
