Catholics have a new Pope

Pope Leo XIV

He is the first US Pope and looks to be a moderniser and reformer, along the lines of Pope Francis before him - women priests, communion for divorcees and so on.

He has some 2 billion followers, but do they all support him? We shall see.

Strong message from the Cardinals to Trump too.

I wish him luck and a long life.

I'm reserving judgement until I see his stance on abortion and homosexuality.

I’m a Catholic in name only, having lapsed many years ago. But I think/fervently hope that Leo will continue Francis’s adherence to the values of the Catholic religion, unlike American so-called Catholics like Vance, who are pretty unchristian. I think he will, he seems cast in a similar mould to his predecessor.

It will be interesting to see his stance on child abuse ,as when he was top dog in Chicago he turned "a blind eye" on one of his priests who was commuting su ch offences.
It does make me smile with these religions with all their pomp and ceremony and wealth when they all have billions of believers living in poverty.

The last three or four Popes have all looked like Bond villains to me; I have visions of them living inside a hollowed out volcano. :o

Same as Osc, I am a very lapsed Catholic, but I am prepared to give him a go.

There is not one organisation, social, political or religious, that is totally transparent in its dealings with their congregations and the wider public: not one.

Give the man a chance.
