I was watching a piece on CNN the other night (I know, I know) with an American spokesman explaining it all. It went something like this:
The Taliban has distanced itself from Al Qaeda. If it breaks away completely it would be good to talk. The Taliban has always promised not to attack anywhere outside of Afghanistan's borders. Afghanistan now has a stable and democratic government and will be a partner in the talks. And anyway, having now sorted out all the problems, we [the West] will be out of there completely within months.
You know what? Many people will buy that line, but anyone notice any flaws? He wasn't pushed too hard for any clarification.
