Just wondering when the law will come in regarding National Service, and that these young men who are arriving here by the thousands will be expected to do
a form of National service and be trained, on stand by in the event of another war to join our boys in battle who are fighting in many places for their supposed cause.

There will not be National Service except in the extremes of a World War or a land war in Europe. Armed forces do not need the manpower numbers they once did. Today's fighting forces are largely technological. NS certainly will not be brought back as a form of social control - to give the young unemployed something to do - the forces would not stand for it.

We called them the The Borrowers because the first words out of their mouths when on exercise were: "Can we borrow...." :D It usually meant that we would never see the item again. :o

I understand your reaction to National Service, WM, but would it not be possible to introduce a form of compulsory National Service without the direct involvement of the Army? A civilian Militia, if you like?

Plenty of ex-Army rankers and NCOs around these days on Civvy Street who could be enlisted to run it. (Or failing that, G4S ...)

I agree with you, I do not see why we should risk our men's lives in battle or any where else.. These immigrants come to UK are given every benefit once they have qualified.
They have free lawyers waiting to fight their corner, free NHS, benefits, housing
you name it it is there for them. (apart from those living rough alongside hundreds, maybe a thousand of our own including ex servicemen who have been thrown on the scrap heap.. The Germans have or had a good idea, it was compulsory that all young men go into service I think it was for two or three years, perhaps Frank will know the length of time.. We met two in Kuwait and have on our travels met quite a few elsewhere.. They were not there to fight but do voluntary work (for which they were paid) at least if we had something like this these individuals would feel a bit more British. ! ! ? ??
